Cognac is a variety of brandy and is produced in the wine growing region surrounding the town of Cognac in France. Typically 40% ABV, Cognac has to meet certain legal requirements, including being made from the specified grapes and be distilled twice in copper pot stills before being aged in barrels for at least two years. The flavour of Cognac varies but often features a combination of nut, fruit, caramel, honey, vanilla or other spices. Popular Cognac brands include Courvoisier and Hennessy.
